UP Flood Havoc: 8 Dead, Rivers Swell And Villages Submerged; Chitrakoot Sees 565 Houses Collapse

UP: Rain has worsened the situation in UP. On top of that, water is being released from dams, hence the rivers are in spate. Ganga, Yamuna, Mandakini, Tons, Belan, Saryu, Ghaghra and Sharda are all flowing above the danger mark. In many areas, water has entered houses, roads to hundreds of villages have been closed and crops standing in the fields have been completely submerged. So far 8 people have died in rain and flood related accidents in Chitrakoot, Etawah, Banda, Sitapur, Barabanki and Sambhal. Many people are injured. The administration has deployed relief teams.

How did three people of the same family die in Chitrakoot?

A mud house collapsed due to continuous rains in Chitrakoot. 32 year old Kallu Yadav, his 5 year old son Ansh and 1-year-old daughter Gudiya died after being buried under the debris. Kallu's wife and second daughter are seriously injured. So far 565 kutcha houses have collapsed in the district. Due to flood in Mandakini, 16 villages including Ramghat are surrounded by water. People are being taken to safe places.

What is the water level of Mandakini river?

On August 29, Mandakini had reached a record level of 135.200 meters, which is the highest till date. For the last 48 hours, the water level has remained around 129 meters, while the danger mark is only 126.500 meters. People trapped in Ramghat have been rescued, but those living on the river banks are still kept on alert.

In which other districts did people lose their lives?

Divyansh Rawat, an 18-year-old class 12 student, died due to lightning in Etawah. A bike rider lost his life and two brothers were injured after a tree fell in Banda. A woman died after a mud wall collapsed in Sitapur. Father-in-law died and son-in-law was injured due to wall collapse in Barabanki. In Sambhal too, a house collapsed due to lightning and 5 people were injured, while an elderly woman died after falling from the roof.

How many areas have been affected?

Almost the entire state is in low-lying areas under water. Villages are flooded, roads are closed and crops are getting spoilt. Administration teams are keeping an eye and people are being continuously appealed to be cautious and move to safe places.
